One of the most amazing temples I have ever visited is Borobudur, a seeming maze of Buddhas and stone carvings located in Magelang, Central Java. A Buddhist pilgrimage destination, this 9th century UNESCO World Heritage Site houses 504 Buddha statues and is decorated with 2672 relief panels.
Catching the sunrise is well worth it. About an hour’s bus ride from Yogyakarta, the ride offered a silhouetted view of the active volcano Merapi complete with trailing smoke.
